Listen to Elizabeth Bayleigh, Chair of our Public Oversight Committee, talk about her journey as a patient and her struggle to fight for her medical care.
In 2011, Elizabeth’s life changed. Overnight, Elizabeth went from sitting on the bench as one of the UK’s youngest judges to becoming a survivor of a grade 5 subarachnoid haemorrhage, stroke, and medical negligence. Left mostly blind, paralysed, and cognitively impaired, she was discharged from the hospital with no rehabilitation and forced to rebuild her life alone. Her journey is one of resilience, advocacy, and transformation.
We are lucky to have Elizabeth on our Public Oversight Committee, advocating for patients who cannot do so themselves. Having such a strong patient voice allows us to ensure that our work stays relevant to those who need it most, the patients.
